Guardians of the Galaxy

So, Marvel's making a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Holy Crap! Rocket Raccoon blowing shit up on the big screen, probably in 3D to boot, just makes me all warm and fuzzy happy-happy. Plus, that series, which mysteriously went away about a year ago, was a truly spectacular comic. Bug from the Micronauts was a member from time to time. Spectacular! But there was a Guardians of the Galaxy team before Rocket Raccoon and Bug and Starlord and the rest. They were Marvel's answer to DC's Legion of Superheroes. A team of weirdos and misfits from the 31st century fighting the good fight. Right. Up. My. Alley. I didn't picked up Valentino's run on that team back in the 90s. I was never a big fan of Valentino. But this is what they looked like back in the late 70s:

Vision's head

I liked how this came out so . . .
Just a quick sketch.

SDCC 2012

Wooo. Back from the Con. Starting to get feeling back in my adrenal glands. I had a stomach thing throughout the whole shebang and that somewhat colored my experience (the color was brown). Did 2 drawings at the Cartoon Art Museum booth on Saturday. The first was good and I believe sold. It wasn't there when I checked back the next day. The second one blows and I was debating buying it back I was so embarrassed. But I didn't. Needed that cash, man. So here's the good one. You will never see the bad one.
I like her hair.

Squirrel Girl

That's right. Squirrel Girl. Don't mess with her.

Tornado Twins

Don and Dawn Allen: either the 30th century descendants of or the actual kids of Barry Allen the Flash. Depends on what iteration of the DC Universe you're talking about. Still sketching my love of the Legion of Superheroes. These two were never in the Legion but were part of the greater mythos.
I wasn't happy with the last two Legion sketches I posted. I like this one better.

Supergirl

Still thinking about my love of the Legion so here's another member: Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl!

Sporting her original suit. I was looking at Jim Mooney's Supergirl for inspiration.

Ultra Boy

Been thinking about the Legion recently. I picked up Abnett and Lanning's "Hypernaturals" a couple of weeks back. Abnett and Lanning had a very awesome run on the "Legion of Superheroes" before the horror that was the "Threeboot." Their run was also notable for introducing the US to the incredible talent of Olivier Coipel who is now a superstar at Marvel. Well, "Hypernaturals" seems to be Abnett and Lanning's very own take on the "Legion of Superheroes." I liked it better than how the Legion is being done in DC's New 52. So, all that in mind, it reminded me of how much I loved the Legion. So: Rimbor's very own bad boy Jo Nah, aka Ultra Boy (he named himself and obviously has a very healthy ego).
He's sporting his first look here. I like parts of this sketch. He's got a great big Matt Damon head going. Oh well, better next time.
