Broke my own rules posting this. The blog is all about me learning how to ink. This page is not inked. I did darken it up some with Photoshop. Penciled the whole thing last night after work. Kinda crappy. Will get better though. Hopefully.

Solomon Kane!

Just finished a book collecting all of Robert E. Howard's Solomon Kane stories. Great read. A little bit racist in places. A product of it's times, alas. But still really good. So I went and did this. I photoshopped the title from a comic found online. Now I just need to learn how to color.

Copied from an early issue of Nexus. It was suggested that I study the artists I love to better my own craft, thus the last post of Johnny Comet by Frank Frazetta and this one by Steve Rude. I really like the boldness of line and beautiful Andrew Loomis-like figures Steve Rude can do.

I have difficulty copying line for line. I just don't have that steady of a hand yet. So here is my roughest of approximations.

Copied this trying to capture that figure movement Frank Frazetta does so well. It's not an exact copy. I suck at those. But close. Also, not nearly the same inking-wise.
